If anyone was interested in my musical preferances, I would have to say over t
he past year or so, my musical tastes have changed. Perhaps they have not changed so much as they have been able to be better fed by finding more independent bands, and discovering the glory of digital options for getting one song at a time, which is much cheeper than buying a $15 CD for one good song. That said, here are a few musical discoveries:The Soundtrack for "Once" (by the Frames)

"Once" was a surprise movie hit, well, a hit for an indy movie. If you have not seen it, rent it. There's some language, but the music and raw acting is superb as it tells a simple story with music that pricks the soul - for example "When Your Mind's Made Up." See the movie, but more importantly: buy the soundtrack.
The band "Noah and the Whale"
No that is not a typo. The band does not have an official release yet, but the samples found online are beautiful. The song "Five Years Time" is a fun, goofy song that just makes you feel good. Others like Rocks & Daggers are also worth a listen.
The band "Beirut"
A band my friend Jacob got me into. They have a "world" feel, in that they use instruments American bands tend not to. Check out the Beirut - The Penalty to see what I mean. Somehow, the accordian works.
The website musicforants.com
This is really where I find most of my new music. They let you try a track for free, then if it is good I will find more by that artist on itunes or a used CD shop. Happy hunting and enjoy the new music on the playlist.
